Sponsorship Information
Foster Parents and Sponsors

We understand that there are many people out there that want to help but cannot adopt a pet at this time. In this case please consider becoming a foster parent or sponsoring a foster. Fostering animals while they await their forever homes is a truly rewarding experience.  It is our foster families that are really responsible for giving these pets a new lease on life and providing them with the help and, simply, the time that that need to find true happiness with the right family.  Big Hearts supports our foster families in all ways, and handles all fanancial needs related to the care of the animal.  Please contact us if you think you can open you heart and home to a temporary fuzzy-faced visitor who will be so grateful for your kidness and generosity!

We are also always in dire need of fiancial assistance. As you may have noticed we like to take on the truly down trodden, older, and special needs pets. These precious beings truly deserve a new chance at life and we want to be there to help them get started on their way. Our medical bills, food, supplies, etc. can be overwhelming and our only source of income is through personal donations. This rescue is run on a volunteer basis only. We love to give to these special animals and we are making a difference! A little bit of help changes the whole world for that animal!  Please help by sponsoring a foster pet , either through a one time donation or on a continuous basis (monthly). Please sponsor a pet through our Donation Page.  Pass the word to others out there, the more sponsors we have, the more pets we can help. Thank you all for your support.

Here's some inspirational tales of our 'Special Needs' Pets:

Duncan-  Meet Duncan, our only current Life Long Foster!  Duncan will be a permanent foster with Big Hearts Rescue.  Why?  Duncan has cancer.  But not to worry, he is currently in remission!  Duncan was found running loose and very thin.  We took him in and found out he is at least 15 years old.  He had growths all over his body, all being fatty tumors or warts, but the one on his lip turned out to be malignant.  We removed it and within two months it had come back.  We made the decision to remove part of his lower lip (where the tumor was) to get rid of it for good.  Duncan has had a seizure before and we did not feel he was a good canidate for adoption.  Duncan has a fantastic Foster Dad (Ken) and he even has his own recliner to watch TV in.  Big Hearts Rescue promises to make sure Duncan has a great rest of his life, and that it is a quaility life.  If you would like to donate to help with Duncan's expenses we would be eternally grateful.

Harold-  Harold was found by a Good Samaritan laying in a ditch badly injured.  He was brought into a vet office where it was discovered that he was mauled by another dog(s). By his nervous demeanor and fear of people and other dogs we believe Harold was used as a bait dog.  Harold has healed nicely from his wounds and is undergoing training for his fear of things unfamiliar.  Harold has bad hips which pop out of joint as he walks.  He is currently under medical hold until we can raise enough money for his hip surgery.  Please help Harold by making a donation today to help cover costs for his surgery.

Walter- He came to us as Wolfie.  He spent his life with an elderly lady who did the best she could, but never treated him like a dog.  Instead Wolfie had a closet of clothes, but was never neutered, had his teeth cleaned, and both knees pop out of socket when he walks (luxating patellas).  He never went outdoors and was afraid of grass.  The elderly woman was terminally ill so she gave Wolfie away to another woman who had him only 10 days before surrendering him to us.  But Wolfie's medical condition was not his only issue.  He can bite and bit both new owners quite a bit if he did not want to do something.  He even was put on a diet of mashed potatoes and chocolate, the only two items he would eat.  Needless to say, what a mess we have on our hands.  The first thing we did was toss the clothes, and start treating him like a dog.  He also went back to dog food, even though he went on a hunger strike for 36 hours.  And finally, he goes outside now.  Wolfie's new name is Walter, named after Walter Matthau, as he was a grumpy little man.  But he really isn't, he is quite sweet.  No biting, only licking is what we have seen.  Walter just wanted to be treated like a dog, that's all.  Walter is a beautiful, 6 year old, purebred Silky Terrier, that needs a loving forever home.  He needs two more surgeries and we need donations to raise money for them.  His first surgery has already been completed, he was neutered and had his teeth cleaned.  Bow Wow Boutique donated a well needed bath and grooming as he had a yeast infection on his skin as well.  Now he needs two knee surgeries and they will cost around $1800 total.  Please help Walter find the money to help finish his rehabilitation.  He is also looking for a foster home, and a forever home once he is completely rehabilitated.  Walter, all 6 pounds of him, is starting life over, let's make sure the remainder of his life is a good one!
